The K-pop legends will connect fans with Korea’s space ambitions through the Dream Capsule project as they prepare to release “BiiiG” and launch their “XX : COSMOS” world tour.

BIGBANG is taking its name beyond music and closer to its cosmic origins.

The legendary K-pop group has been appointed the first promotional ambassador for the Korea AeroSpace Administration, also known as KASA. The appointment places G-Dragon, Taeyang and Daesung at the center of a public campaign designed to introduce Korea’s aerospace policies, projects and long-term vision to a wider audience.

The collaboration arrives at a meaningful point for both sides. KASA began operations in 2024 as Korea’s national agency responsible for leading the country’s aerospace development. BIGBANG, whose name refers to the theory explaining the beginning of the universe, is simultaneously celebrating its 20th anniversary with a new single and a world tour built around the theme of space.

The result is a partnership that feels less like a conventional celebrity appointment and more like a natural extension of BIGBANG’s anniversary story.

BIGBANG becomes KASA’s first promotional ambassador

KASA announced on August 14 that BIGBANG had been selected as the agency’s inaugural promotional ambassador.

In this role, the group will help communicate Korea’s aerospace vision and introduce major national projects to the public. These are expected to include the country’s next Nuri rocket launch and future lunar exploration initiatives.

KASA said it plans to work with BIGBANG on public communication activities that make the aerospace sector feel more accessible. The agency also hopes the partnership will encourage people to participate in Korea’s future space projects rather than viewing them only as highly technical government programs.

“BIGBANG” already carries a direct connection to space, making the group an unusually fitting choice. The group’s name references the massive cosmic event associated with the birth and expansion of the universe.

That symbolism has become even stronger during BIGBANG’s 20th-anniversary celebrations.

What is BIGBANG’s Dream Capsule project?

BIGBANG’s first major activity as KASA ambassador will be the Dream Capsule project, a public participation campaign connected to the fifth launch of Korea’s Nuri rocket.

Through the project, fans and members of the public will be invited to submit memories, dreams and messages of support. Participants will receive a digital boarding pass symbolizing their message’s journey aboard the Nuri mission.

The collected messages will then be transformed into coded images inspired by the Arecibo message, the famous interstellar radio message transmitted from Puerto Rico’s Arecibo Observatory in 1974.

Those coded messages are scheduled to travel into space aboard the Nuri rocket’s fifth launch.

The project gives fans an opportunity to become part of BIGBANG’s anniversary in an unexpected way. Instead of simply leaving a congratulatory comment online, participants can attach their memories and hopes to a real Korean space mission.

It also allows KASA to introduce the public to Korea’s expanding space program through a cultural figure with an established global audience.

The appointment connects directly to BIGBANG’s “COSMOS” era

The timing of the announcement is especially significant because space has become the central concept of BIGBANG’s 20th-anniversary activities.

The group will release its new digital single, “BiiiG,” on August 19 at 6 p.m. KST. The title offers a playful variation of the group’s name while emphasizing the scale of its return.

“BiiiG” will be BIGBANG’s first new group release since “Still Life” arrived in April 2022. It will also mark the first official BIGBANG single released by G-Dragon, Taeyang and Daesung as a three-member lineup.

Only two days after the single’s release, the group will begin the BIGBANG 2026–2027 World Tour “XX : COSMOS.”

The tour opens with three concerts at Goyang Stadium from August 21 to 23. Official schedules also include performances across North America, Europe, Oceania and Asia, bringing the group’s anniversary celebrations to fans around the world. YG Entertainment’s official tour page lists stadium stops including Oakland, East Rutherford, Paris, London, Taipei, Singapore, Hanoi, Sydney and Bangkok.

The words “BIGBANG,” “COSMOS” and “Dream Capsule” now form one connected narrative. Each represents a different part of the group’s anniversary, but together they frame its comeback as something larger than a standard album promotion.

Why BIGBANG is a meaningful choice for Korea’s space campaign

Celebrity ambassadors are often selected because of their popularity, but BIGBANG brings additional symbolic value to KASA’s campaign.

The group helped shape the international growth of K-pop long before Korean music became a regular presence on major global charts and festival stages. Its influence can still be seen in contemporary K-pop’s approach to songwriting, fashion, performance and individual artistic identity.

Twenty years after its debut, BIGBANG remains recognizable across generations and national borders. That reach could help KASA communicate with audiences who might not normally follow aerospace news.

The appointment also reflects a wider trend in Korean public diplomacy, where music, entertainment and digital fandom are increasingly used to introduce national projects to international audiences.

For younger fans in particular, encountering the Nuri rocket or Korea’s lunar ambitions through BIGBANG may provide a more approachable entry point into space science and policy.

According to reports on the appointment, KASA plans to use the partnership to expand public interest and participation in Korea’s aerospace programs. The Dream Capsule project offers an early example of how that strategy can work by combining scientific symbolism, fan culture and a real space mission. Asia Economy and Newsis reported details of the appointment and project.

BIGBANG’s 20th anniversary enters a new orbit

BIGBANG’s upcoming anniversary is not relying only on nostalgia.

The group is using its history as the foundation for a new chapter that includes fresh music, a global stadium tour and now an official role in promoting Korea’s aerospace future.

For fans who have followed G-Dragon, Taeyang and Daesung for years, the Dream Capsule project creates a literal way to send those memories beyond Earth. For KASA, the partnership offers an opportunity to transform complex national projects into stories that feel personal and open to public participation.

BIGBANG once chose a name inspired by the birth of the universe. Two decades later, the group is preparing to send its fans’ dreams into space.
