Disease-free seeds - the key solution
In many key cassava-growing areas, cassava mosaic disease has caused considerable difficulties for farmers. Mr. Bui Thanh Liem (Puh Chik hamlet, Ia Rsai commune) said that in previous years, cassava mosaic disease appeared on a large scale, causing poor growth and a sharp decrease in yield. At times, many cassava fields in the region were affected, with yields only reaching about 15-17 tons/ha, or even lower for households without experience in cultivation.
Faced with this reality, in 2025, his family switched to experimenting with planting about 4 hectares of the HL-RS15 cassava variety. Through practical production, this cassava variety has shown good growth potential, strong plants, and is less affected by cassava mosaic disease. "Since planting, we haven't seen any signs of cassava mosaic disease. If properly cared for, the yield can reach over 40 tons/ha," Mr. Liem said.
According to Mr. Liem, the recent crop was affected by waterlogging in some low-lying areas due to the unfamiliarity with the new variety; the harvest time coincided with storms and strong winds, which also impacted the quality of the tubers. However, the yield still reached over 30 tons/ha. "The cassava tubers are large, firm, and have good starch storage capacity," Mr. Liem said.
