Omoda & Jaecoo Vietnam have announced that they are now accepting deposits for the Jaecoo J5 in Vietnam. This B-segment SUV is offered with three powertrain options: a gasoline-powered model, a self-charging hybrid SHS-H, and an all-electric variant. The model featured in this article is the Jaecoo J5 BEV Flagship – the all-electric version using a battery.
The Jaecoo J5 BEV boasts the brand's signature boxy body design. The manufacturer, part of the Chery Group, states that this design optimizes usable space while providing a more spacious rear luggage compartment.
The Jaecoo J5 BEV has dimensions of 4,380 x 1,860 x 1,650 mm (length x width x height), with a wheelbase of 2,620 mm. The all-electric version has a ground clearance of 184 mm, while the gasoline versions have a ground clearance of 176 mm.
The front end of the Jaecoo J5 BEV features several details that emphasize its purely electric nature, including a closed grille and an off-center BEV logo on the front bumper.
The Jaecoo J5 is equipped with an LED main headlight cluster, seamlessly integrated with a black strip containing the brand logo hidden inside.
The rear of the car is sleek with LED taillights, featuring a design that is consistent with the front. The brand logo is prominently displayed on a black strip connecting the taillights. In the corner of the tailgate, the EV logo further emphasizes that this is the all-electric variant of the Jaecoo J5.
This all-electric B-segment SUV has a two-row, five-seat configuration.
The Jaecoo J5 BEV's cockpit area features a minimalist design with few physical buttons, focusing on modernity.
The steering wheel is a round, two-spoke design with a flat bottom, integrating function buttons. Behind the steering wheel is an 8-inch digital instrument cluster, displaying color and quite easy to read.
The electronic gear selector is located behind the steering wheel.
The highlight of the cockpit is the vertically oriented 12.3-inch central infotainment screen. Drivers can use this screen to adjust various vehicle functions such as the dual-zone automatic climate control system, interior ambient lighting, ADAS driver assistance features, and the 540-degree panoramic camera.
Panoramic glass roof and wireless charging pad are also highlights in the interior of this all-electric SUV. Jaecoo says the J5 in Vietnam aims to meet pet-friendly standards, meaning the materials are scratch-resistant, antibacterial, stain-resistant, and odor-resistant.
The Jaecoo J5 BEV is equipped with a 208-horsepower electric motor, delivering a maximum torque of 288 Nm. A multi-link independent rear suspension system is standard on the Jaecoo J5 sold in Vietnam.
Powering the vehicle is a 58.9 kWh battery pack, allowing the Jaecoo J5 BEV to travel a maximum of 461 km on a single full charge, according to NEDC standards.
Omoda & Jaecoo Vietnam announced that the official launch price of the J5 BEV version will not exceed 699 million VND.
In the B-segment all-electric SUV category, the Jaecoo J5 BEV will have to compete directly with rivals such as the VinFast VF 6 and BYD Atto 2. The B-segment SUV market, equipped with both gasoline and hybrid engines, also includes many notable names such as the Toyota Yaris Cross, Mitsubishi Xforce, Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta, MG ZS, Geely Coolray, Lynk & Co 06... and even its "sibling" Omoda C5.
