Former teammate Paul Scholes 'clarifies' his sarcastic remarks about Carrick after MU's 1-2 defeat to Newcastle, and 'warrior' Nemanja Vidic makes a great comment.
Manchester United had an impressive run under interim manager Michael Carrick , with six wins and one draw, before losing 1-2 to Newcastle, despite playing with a man advantage throughout the second half, in the 29th round of the Premier League last weekend.
After the match, former midfielder Paul Scholes posted a sarcastic message mocking his former Old Trafford teammate, now in a new role: " Michael Carrick certainly has something special, because Manchester United have played very poorly in their last four games ."
It's also worth mentioning that, along with another former MU player, Gary Neville, Paul Scholes wasn't very supportive of Carrick when he was chosen to replace Ruben Amorim.
Both believe that Manchester United need a world- class manager for the long term, not Carrick.
Following the criticism, and seeing the strong public reaction, Paul Scholes had to speak out to clarify: "I absolutely did not mean to offend Carrick. He is one of the kindest people in football... "
Despite not having Scholes's support, thanks to the good results since Carrick's return, MU are currently third in the Premier League , getting closer to their goal of securing a Champions League spot next season.
Watching Manchester United play, former defender and warrior Nemanja Vidic said something that fans all nodded in approval of:
“ I support Michael Carrick and the players. I hope they earn the Champions League spot that Manchester United need next season. That’s the team’s immediate goal.”
Let them strive to achieve that. Don't put pressure on Carrick about what will happen afterward (regarding the appointment of the official head coach of MU – Ed.). Just enjoy the present moment.
Under Carrick, I saw a positive reaction from the players, especially in the first few games. I went to watch the Manchester derby and sat next to Sir Alex. It was great to see him again. It's been a long time since I've felt such an atmosphere full of energy and passion at Old Trafford .”
MU's next match is against Aston Villa at 9 PM on March 15th.
