The addition of a hybrid version to the 2026 Kia Sportage marks the completion of the brand's electrified vehicle lineup in Vietnam, while expanding options for families who prioritize fuel efficiency but still want an SUV with a modern design and advanced technology. Previously, Kia had also introduced hybrid versions of the Sorento and Carnival.
The introduction of the Sportage Hybrid also puts this model in direct competition with rivals that already have electrified versions, such as the Honda CR-V e:HEV, BYD Sealion 6, and Jaecoo J7. These are all models that are receiving a lot of attention thanks to their fuel efficiency and reasonable running costs.
In this mid-cycle refresh, the 2026 Kia Sportage receives a significant redesign to its front end. The grille has been redesigned to be more angular, combined with new LED headlights featuring modern graphics. The front and rear bumpers and taillights have also been refined to give it a more robust and youthful appearance.
Hybrid versions use 18-inch alloy wheels. Although the chassis platform remains unchanged, Kia has made slight adjustments to the overall dimensions to create a more balanced and modern look for the vehicle.
The interior retains its familiar style but is enhanced with some new details. Most notably, it features a flat-bottomed two-spoke steering wheel and a curved instrument cluster comprising two 12.3-inch screens seamlessly integrated into the dashboard. This design makes the driving space feel more modern compared to its predecessor.
The Sportage Hybrid boasts a comprehensive list of amenities, including a rotary electronic gear selector, wireless charging, an 8-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, leather seats with heating and cooling functions for the front seats. The two higher-end versions also feature a power-adjustable driver's seat with memory function, ambient interior lighting, and a panoramic sunroof.
In terms of safety, the 2026 Kia Sportage is equipped with a range of advanced driver assistance technologies such as lane keeping assist, lane departure warning, blind spot warning, forward collision avoidance assist, rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, 360-degree camera, tire pressure monitoring system, and six airbags.
The most notable highlight is under the hood. The hybrid version uses a 1.6L turbocharged gasoline engine combined with an electric motor, producing a total output of 232 horsepower and a maximum torque of 367 Nm. It comes with a 6-speed automatic transmission and a choice of front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive.
According to the manufacturer, the Sportage Hybrid's combined fuel consumption is only about 4.9 liters/100 km. This figure promises to help the Korean model compete better in a context where consumers are increasingly concerned about running costs.
THACO Auto has not yet announced the official price of the Kia Sportage Hybrid in Vietnam. However, with its entry into the electrified C-segment SUV market, this model is expected to offer customers another compelling option alongside established names such as the Honda CR-V, BYD Sealion 6, and Jaecoo J7.
