After nearly two decades of absence, manual transmissions are likely to return to a Ferrari model, specifically the Ferrari 12Cilindri, the brand's latest GT model equipped with a V12 engine.
The limited-edition Ferrari 12Cilindri, equipped with a manual transmission, is a prime example of this.
The last time Ferrari equipped a V12-powered grand touring model with a manual transmission was in 2007 with the Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano. Although semi-automatic transmissions controlled by paddle shifters behind the steering wheel had become standard at the time, Ferrari still produced around 30 599 GTBs with a 6-speed manual transmission.
The last time Ferrari offered a manual transmission was in 2007 with the 599 GTB Fiorano. Even last year, Marketing and Commercial Director Enrico Galliera dashed collectors' hopes for a future with this option.
This was also the last Ferrari V12 to be sold with a manual transmission. Previously, Ferrari had offered manual versions of the 575M Maranello and Superamerica, but in very limited quantities. Today, these manual-transmission Ferrari V12s are highly sought after by collectors and often fetch very high prices at auctions. This demonstrates that there is still significant demand for V12 grand touring cars paired with traditional manual transmissions.
According to sources, Ferrari plans to revive this configuration on the 12Cilindri supercar. Similar to its predecessors, the manual transmission version will be produced in limited quantities and reserved only for the brand's most loyal customers. This means Ferrari will directly decide who gets the chance to own this special model.
The Ferrari 12Cilindri with a manual transmission still boasts 830 horsepower.
In terms of power, the manual Ferrari 12Cilindri is expected to retain the current 6.5L naturally aspirated V12 engine without any changes. This engine produces a maximum power of 830 horsepower and a maximum torque of 678 Nm. The biggest difference lies in the transmission, where the current 8-speed dual-clutch gearbox will be replaced with a manual transmission. However, detailed specifications of the new gearbox have not yet been revealed.
After nearly 20 years of absence, a manual transmission option may return to the Prancing Horse brand. Naturally, only customers designated by the brand will be able to own these rare models.
Sources also indicate that the company will introduce a manual transmission version of the 12Cilindri to select customers at the Ferrari Cavalcade event on June 29, 2026. Following that, the model is likely to be unveiled to the global public in July.
If this information proves true, a Ferrari 12Cilindri with a manual transmission would mark the return of one of the purest driving experiences ever associated with the iconic V12 models of the Prancing Horse brand.
