The current generation of the Volvo XC60 – the best-selling model in the history of the Swedish car brand – launched in 2017, recently received a minor update for the MY 2026 model year. However, according to Motor1 , Volvo plans to implement a significant upgrade for the Volvo XC60 in the near future.

Information provided by Automotive News indicates that Volvo is planning to increase battery capacity on the T8 version equipped with a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrain, while also making minor design adjustments to the vehicle.

Those familiar with the plan shared that a larger battery pack could double, or even triple, the all-electric range of the Volvo XC60 PHEV, currently around 56 km per charge thanks to its 18.8 kWh battery pack.

If the information provided by Automotive News is accurate, the Volvo XC60 will be able to travel approximately 160 km on pure electric power per charge. This figure would also put the Volvo model ahead of the Mercedes-Benz GLC 350e, which currently has a maximum pure electric range of nearly 87 km.

It is unclear whether Volvo plans to make any changes to other powertrain configurations.
