On June 16th, in Los Palacios district, Pinar del Río province, Cuba, a handover and acceptance ceremony took place for 1,200 tons of CT16 rice, produced in Cuba by AgriVMA Co., Ltd., to the Cuban recipient, according to the handover minutes between the relevant parties. Vietnamese Ambassador to Cuba Le Quang Long and Cuban Deputy Minister of Agriculture Telce Abdel González Morera witnessed the ceremony.
According to the handover document, the quantity of CT16 rice handed over this time is 1,200 tons, packaged in 50kg bags, ensuring technical standards throughout the entire harvesting, processing, and transportation process.
The CT16 rice variety is grown directly in Cuba, applying cultivation and field management processes based on Vietnamese experience and techniques. The percentage of broken rice is approximately 20%, reflecting the actual production conditions in the area and within the framework of the agreement between the parties.
The supplier is AgriVMA Co., Ltd., a Vietnamese enterprise implementing an agricultural production project in Cuba based on a model of integrated production-processing-consumption on-site. The recipient is Agroindustrial de Granos Los Palacios (EAIG), a unit of the Cuban agricultural sector, responsible for the key production area in Los Palacios, Pinar del Río province.
The handover further affirms the stability and initial effectiveness of the agricultural cooperation model between Vietnamese businesses and Cuban partners, in the context of Cuba facing many challenges regarding food security and the supply of agricultural materials. At the same time, it marks an important step forward in the Vietnam-Cuba agricultural cooperation chain, especially in the field of on-site rice production.
Previously, in February 2026, the two sides held a handover ceremony for 250 tons of CT16 rice, also witnessed by the Vietnamese Ambassador to Cuba and the Deputy Minister of Agriculture of Cuba.
This larger-scale handover demonstrates the progress in expanding production and enhancing the supply capacity of the AgriVMA project in Cuba, and reflects the close coordination between the relevant agencies of the two countries in promoting substantive agricultural cooperation.
Rice production projects implemented by Vietnamese businesses in Cuba, using the CT16 rice variety, are contributing to increased productivity, improved rice grain quality, and gradually reducing Cuba's dependence on imports.
This handover activity further affirms that agricultural cooperation is one of the important pillars in the traditional friendship, special solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Cuba, and demonstrates the long-term commitment of Vietnamese businesses to agricultural production in Cuba.
