According to information from several sales consultants at dealerships, MG is planning to bring a series of new models to Vietnam in the near future. Following the new generation ZS and HS, the MG RX9 with a plug-in hybrid engine option is expected to be one of the next SUVs to enter the Vietnamese market.

In addition, the MG4 Urban, a purely electric vehicle, is also likely to be introduced in Vietnam.

According to sales consultants, the next-generation ZS and HS could launch as early as September or October, while the MG RX9 is expected to go on sale later.

The MG RX9 competes with the Hyundai Palisade.

The MG RX9 belongs to the large SUV segment, measuring 4,983mm in length, 1,967mm in width, and 1,786mm in height. The wheelbase is 2,915mm, while the ground clearance is 200mm.

With these dimensions, the MG RX9 falls into the 3-row SUV category and has specifications comparable to the Hyundai Palisade.

The MG RX9 is now available in several Southeast Asian markets. In the Philippines , the MG RX9 PHEV version is priced at approximately 1.99 million pesos (over 860 million VND). This price is comparable to some popular SUVs in Vietnam, such as the Mazda CX-5, even though the two models belong to different segments.

There is currently no information on the expected price of the MG RX9 in Vietnam. However, MG models currently distributed in the country usually have competitive prices compared to similar products from Japanese and Korean brands.

Referencing the versions currently sold in Cambodia and the Philippines, the MG RX9 boasts a rather striking exterior design. The front of the car features a chrome grille with a Starburst pattern, occupying a large portion of the front fascia.

The lighting system includes LED headlights and a LED taillight strip that extends almost the entire width of the rear of the car. The vehicle is equipped with 20-inch two-tone alloy wheels.

Inside, the MG RX9 features a seven-seat configuration with three rows of seats, targeting families who need a spacious SUV. The interior utilizes soft-touch upholstery and incorporates ambient lighting.

One of the notable features is the dual 12.3-inch screen setup, supporting Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. In the Philippines, the MG RX9 also comes equipped with massage seats, a 12-speaker Bose sound system, and a hands-free power tailgate.

Plug-in hybrid vehicle options

In some Southeast Asian markets, the MG RX9 is offered in two powertrain configurations: a petrol engine and a plug-in hybrid (PHEV).

The gasoline engine version uses a 2.0L turbocharged engine, delivering a maximum power of 231 horsepower and a maximum torque of 392Nm. This engine is paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive, and comes with a 70-liter fuel tank.

Meanwhile, the PHEV version uses a 1.5L turbocharged gasoline engine combined with an electric motor. The hybrid system delivers a total output of approximately 295 horsepower, along with a maximum torque of 390Nm.

The 24.7kWh LFP battery pack allows the car to run on pure electric power for 115km according to the NEDC standard. The total driving range of the MG RX9 PHEV is stated at 1,198km.

The MG RX9 is equipped with disc brakes on both axles, 6 airbags, and a 360-degree camera. Basic safety features include anti-lock braking system (ABS), electronic brake force distribution (EBD), electronic stability control (ESC), traction control system (TCS), and hill start assist.

In addition, the MG Pilot driver assistance system integrates several ADAS features such as adaptive cruise control (ACC), automatic emergency braking (AEB), and blind spot monitoring (BSD).

If brought to Vietnam, the MG RX9 would add another 7-seater SUV option to the MG brand, while also competing in the increasingly diverse large family car segment in the domestic market.
