Alex Scott is in the frame for an England call-up as Thomas Tuchel prepares to name his first squad since the agony of the World Cup this summer.
The England manager will be at Wembley on Friday to name his players to face world champions Spain next week followed by Czech Republic and Croatia in the Nations League, with Scott’s form for Bournemouth making a strong case for inclusion.
It is understood that Tuchel was impressed with Scott when he trained with the squad in the pre-tournament camp in Florida last June, although he did not win a first England cap. Rio Ngumoha was played by Tuchel and could also be recalled after making five appearances for Liverpool this season.
Scott, 23, has continued his form of last season into the current campaign after being the subject of a £64m bid from Chelsea in the summer window. Bournemouth have been determined to keep Scott at the club and are open to him signing a new contract.
He was called into the squad last season for the World Cup qualifiers against Serbia and Albania but was an unused sub. With Jordan Henderson yet to play this season after breaking his arm at the Azteca Stadium, Scott would be a like-for-like replacement in central midfield.
England will play four games in 11 days in a new international-break format to start the Nations League campaign. Tuchel may look at Newcastle’s Lewis Hall at left-back, having gone to the World Cup with Nico O’Reilly and Djed Spence in that position.
Tuchel must also decide on whether to keep Ivan Toney and Ollie Watkins in his squad, with both strikers now playing in Saudi Arabia. Watkins secured a move to Al-Hilal before the end of the transfer window, joining Toney who is at Al-Ahli.
