Update: In an update of the original blog post, Steam stated that they will be “shipping all three products this year.”
Steam has officially posted its Steam Year in Review 2025, its annual platform summary for consumers and developers to see. This one features a lot of the hardware that the company had announced in 2025, including the highly-coveted Steam Machine, the new Steam Controller, and the Steam Frame.
Much of the update revolves around these items, and Steam hopes to begin shipping them out at some point in 2026. However, immediately after saying this, the company cited memory and storage shortages as the reason why things might not happen in the way the company is hoping.
Steam Cites ‘Memory and Storage Shortage’ as a Reason for Shortages and Delays
In a different announcement by Steam, it was stated,
“When we announced these products in November, we planned on being able to share specific pricing and launch dates by now. But the memory and storage shortages you’ve likely heard about across the industry have rapidly increased since then. The limited availability and growing prices of these critical components mean we must revisit our exact shipping schedule and pricing (especially around Steam Machine and Steam Frame).
Our goal of shipping all three products in the first half of the year has not changed. But we have work to do to land on concrete pricing and launch dates that we can confidently announce, being mindful of how quickly the circumstances around both of those things can change. We will keep you updated as much as we can as we finalize those plans as soon as possible.”
It seems that things haven’t changed, but as we near the middle of the year, still without any concrete dates or prices, it’s difficult to anticipate shipping in the first half of the year. Considering that large overhaul the company had done in 2025, such as the Proton compatibility layer that helped bring “thousands of excellent games to Linus and SteamOS at no cost to the game developer.”
As a result, it makes sense for them to want to launch their newest hardware as soon as possible for developers to reach their players in all new ways. The rest of the Steam Year in Review goes over consumer-facing updates to shopping and discoverability, allowing players new ways to find and learn about games.
