As the New York Yankees prepare for Game 2 of the AL Wild Card series against the Boston Red Sox, they have provided an unfortunate update regarding pitcher Clarke Schmidt.

While speaking to reporters, including NY Daily News Sports’ Gary Phillips, Yankees manager Aaron Boone shared that Schmidt is officially shut down for the rest of the season due to his biceps injury.

Schmidt was placed back on the 15-day injured list last week due to right biceps neuritis. This was after he made his season debut for the Yankees on Sep. 16 against the Minnesota Twins, where he struck out two batters in 0.2 innings pitched. This would end up being his lone appearance of the 2026 season.

Yet, given Schmidt’s recurring injury trouble, it is understandable that he has been shut down for the season by New York. The 6-foot-1 righty will now get the opportunity to rest up so he is ready for the start of the 2027 season for the Yankees.

Schmidt has appeared in 98 career MLB games over seven seasons for the Yankees. During them, he has posted a 23-24 record, a 3.81 ERA, and 386 strikeouts.
