A TikTok video showing a dachshund being fed in an unconventional—and unexpectedly coordinated—way has sent viewers on the platform into hysterics, racking up more than 735,000 views and 127,000 likes since it was posted on January 29.
Shared by @frank.da.weenie, the lighthearted clip captures a cream‑shaded, long‑haired miniature dachshund calmly eating his dinner while being held upright by his hind legs, prompting hundreds of amused and affectionate reactions from pet lovers on the platform.
In the short video, the dog’s food bowl sits on a bar stool, out of reach and off floor level. To solve the problem, the canine’s owner lifts the dachshund up by his back legs while his front paws rest on the stool for balance. Unbothered by the unusual setup, the dog happily munches what appears to be kibble, fully focused on his meal.
An overlaid caption reads: “This is going to be hard to explain to a sitter.”
The moment struck a chord with viewers, many of whom flooded the comments with laughter and stories of their own pets’ inexplicable routines. While the feeding method might look strange to outsiders, the dog’s calm demeanor suggests this is not a one‑off stunt but a familiar ritual—one that makes perfect sense to him.
Dachshunds are renowned for having outsized personalities. Originally bred in Germany as hunting dogs, dachshunds are known for being intelligent, confident and fiercely independent. Those traits, combined with their distinctive long bodies and short legs, often result in behaviors that are as endearing as they are puzzling.
Food motivation is a defining characteristic of the breed. Many dachshund owners joke that their dogs will do almost anything for a meal, and that determination is on full display in the viral video. Rather than appearing stressed or confused by the setup, the miniature dachshund seems entirely content, suggesting that reaching his food—by any means necessary—is all that matters.
The unusual routine has become a point of relatability for several dog owners in the comments.
“My dog is hand fed…one by one,” one viewer said.
“My dog only drinks water out of water bottles…lol no bowel just water bottled water straight from the source,” another added.
“We understand,” another said.
“How does this even come to be in the first place,” another added.
