Internet users can’t get enough of a cat who refuses to hide his resentment toward his new feline sibling—even though he is the one who brought her home in the first place.
TikTok user @ceefitton has delighted the internet with a clip of her British shorthair cat staring daggers at the newest member of the family: his feline sister. Pets aren’t always known for being particularly welcoming toward new arrivals, but, in this case, viewers were quick to point out an uncomfortable truth—the disgruntled cat only has himself to blame.
The caption layered over the amusing clip explains that the British shorthair brought home a stray cat, “and now that she’s part of the family, he absolutely hates her.” That resentment is unmistakable in the short video, with the gray cat sitting wide-eyed and visibly annoyed, fixed on the intruder he seemingly invited into his life.
While the disgruntled feline doesn’t appear thrilled about gaining a sibling, internet users are obsessed with his reaction. In just a matter of days, the TikTok video has racked up more than 2.5 million views and over 755,000 likes at the time of writing.
Newsweek has contacted @ceefitton via TikTok for comment. The details of the video could not be independently verified.
Although the British shorthair’s reaction struck many viewers as hilarious, feline behavior experts say cats bringing home other animals—including other felines—isn’t quite as unusual as it might seem. According to PetMD, cats may attempt to bring other felines home due to social bonding instincts, particularly if they have not been spayed or neutered. Some appear to treat others similarly to the way they would kittens, attempting to adopt or care for them temporarily before realizing the long-term implications.
The ASPCA also notes that cats are highly territorial but curious animals. In some cases, a resident feline may escort a stray into its territory as a way of assessing a potential social or environmental threat. Once that evaluation is complete—especially once the stranger sticks around—conflict and regret can quickly set in.
Since the cat’s reaction was shared online, TikTok users have flocked to the comments to revel in his visible displeasure. Many suggested he never intended for the new arrival to become a permanent member of the household, joking that he clearly wasn’t ready for such a commitment. The post has attracted more than 2,000 comments so far.
One commenter wrote: “Overstaying your welcome I see.”
Another TikTok user joked: “I don’t think he was looking for anything long term.”
A third added: “I told her she could spend the night and you let her move in?”
A fourth summed up the moment perfectly: “The instant regret is written all over his face.”
Despite the cat’s apparent unhappiness, many viewers noted that the situation highlights a surprisingly relatable truth—even well-intentioned decisions can sometimes backfire. For this British shorthair, what may have begun as curiosity or companionship quickly turned into a viral lesson in feline regret.
