Internet users can’t get enough of the unusual habit a Great Pyrenees has developed after living alongside three cats.
While most Great Pyrenees are known for their sheer power, independence and vigilant nature, one dog named Bao Bao has shown that there is far more to her skill set than simply guarding the home. In a video posted to her dedicated TikTok account (@pyrly.bao), Bao Bao’s owner, of North Carolina, joked about the unexpected routine the large canine has picked up after sharing a household with three feline companions.
As it turns out, Bao Bao has indeed learned a thing or two from her cat siblings—but not in the form of meowing or scaling furniture. Instead, the 80‑pound Great Pyrenees has mastered the art of sitting like a cat.
The viral TikTok video shows Bao Bao perfectly loafing, a posture typically associated with cats, with her legs tucked neatly beneath her body so that only her head and fluffy torso are visible. The result makes the giant dog resemble what her owner dubbed a “freshly baked Pyrenees.”
Social media users have been quick to fall in love with the unlikely pose. The clip racked up more than 711,000 views and over 153,000 likes on TikTok in just a matter of days at the time of writing, with countless commenters expressing disbelief—and delight—at the sight of such a large dog pulling off a move usually reserved for cats.
Newsweek has contacted @pyrly.bao via TikTok for comment. We could not verify the details of the video.
According to veterinary experts, the loaf position in cats is generally a sign of comfort and relaxation. PetMD explains that cats usually loaf when they feel safe in their environment, as the posture allows them to conserve body heat while remaining alert to their surroundings. Tucking their paws beneath their body also helps protect vulnerable extremities and is commonly seen when cats are content, calm or simply settling in for a rest.
While loafing is far more common in cats, canines can occasionally adopt similar positions too. Animal behavior specialists have suggested that some dogs loaf to stay warm, feel secure or get comfortable—particularly when resting on cooler floors. Experts also note that canines are highly observant animals, and those raised alongside cats may mimic behaviors they see regularly, especially if they associate those behaviors with relaxation or positive attention.
That tendency to observe and adapt fits well with the Great Pyrenees personality. The American Kennel Club describes the breed as calm, patient and intelligent—traits that may help explain Bao Bao’s willingness to learn from her feline housemates despite her imposing size.
In the days since Bao Bao’s catlike sitting style went viral, TikTok users have flooded the comments with praise and shared stories of their own pups picking up feline habits.
One person wrote: “Cat software in dog hardware.”
Another TikTok user quipped: “The bread is barking again.”
Others chimed in with similar experiences, with one commenter writing: “Yes, my dogs sit on top of the couch headrest the way my cats do.” Another called Bao Bao’s technique “an excellent loaf 11/10.”
As for what’s next, Bao Bao’s owner joked that, while she has perfected the loaf, “she still has lots to learn”—and may start making biscuits soon.
