A golden retriever’s surprised reaction to seeing other animals for the first time has captured the attention of social-media users, turning a short clip into a viral moment that many pet owners instantly recognized.
The video shared on Instagram on March 5 under the username @lanathegoldenretriever_ shows the puppy encountering animals she clearly doesn’t understand. From the very first moment, the young dog’s body language says it all. She backs away looking confused when she first sees a cow, cautiously trying to process what is happening in front of her.
After a few seconds of hesitation, curiosity takes over. Still unsure, the golden retriever slowly tries to move closer to investigate. Her owners keep her safely on a leash as she leans forward, watching the unfamiliar animal. When she can’t make sense of what she is seeing, she reacts the only way she knows how—by barking.
The same thing happens again when the puppy encounters a duck. Once more, she freezes, stares, and then begins barking at the unexpected sight.
Each reaction shows a clear mix of confusion and curiosity, making the video both funny and relatable for viewers who have seen pets react to something new for the very first time.

The poster, 26-year-old Fiona de Lafuente from Bali, told Newsweek that Lana, who has her own accessories brand, has always been a very curious and friendly dog, even more so since moving to their new place.
“Since we’ve been in Bali, she’s been so happy because we spend a lot of time at the beach and walking around a beautiful golf course in Uluwatu. On one of those walks, she came across some cows, which are actually very common here,” de Lafuente said.
“In the clip, you can see her completely fascinated and a bit confused—she had never seen a cow before in her life! She was around 7 months old at the time, so everything was still very new to her, and her reaction was just pure curiosity and excitement.”
