Taylor Swift recently announced that she is releasing a brand new single that will be featured in Pixar’s highly anticipated movie, Toy Story 5.
The singer announced on Instagram that she “always dreamed of getting to write for these characters,” who have been part of her life since she was a child. Now, fans are just days away from her latest offering, with the track titled “I Knew It, I Knew You,” set for release on June 5.
While this is not Swift’s first foray into Hollywood, it could certainly prove a significant one. Having already won 14 Grammy Awards (including four Album of the Year awards) and an Emmy Award for Outstanding Creative Achievement in Interactive Media for the AMEX Unstaged: Taylor Swift Experience project, she is already halfway to the famed EGOT status.
What Is an EGOT?
An EGOT is someone who has won an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony Award, which is no mean feat. There are 22 EGOT holders so far, including Elton John, Jennifer Hudson, Rita Moreno, Andrew Lloyd Webber and the most recent addition was Stephen Spielberg, who joined the club in 2026.
It takes some accomplishment to join this list, but could Swift be on her way?
There are many contenders who are yet to reach such a career height, with the likes of Lin-Manuel Miranda, Cynthia Erivo, Adele and Julie Andrews all on three of the four awards.
How Could Swift Win an Oscar?
Following this week’s announcement that Swift is releasing a song written for Toy Story 5, many have speculated that this could be a prime opportunity for an Oscar. Composer Randy Newman has earned nominations for his musical work on all four Toy Story movies in the past and even won an Oscar for “We Belong Together” from Toy Story 3.
Might this be Swift’s golden chance to take home the award for Best Original Song at next year’s Oscars ceremony?
Indeed, if not this time, there may be plenty more opportunities for the hitmaker to lend her vocal talents to films in the future. Let’s not rule out an Oscar for acting either, as she did famously star in Cats in 2019 as well as Valentine’s Day in 2010.
How Could Swift Win a Tony Award?
Winning an Oscar would undoubtedly be a huge breakthrough, but that may not be Swift’s biggest challenge. In fact, the Tony Award could be the hardest to get her hands on.
The Tonys recognize excellence in live American theater, and it seems unlikely that Swift will take center stage in Hamilton or Hadestown anytime soon. She may not go for a run at the Featured Actress in a Musical category, but she could try for Best Original Score.
The 2025 winner for Best Original Score was the highly esteemed Maybe Happy Ending, with music and lyrics by Will Aronson and Hue Park. The requirement for this award is that the music and/or lyrics are written specifically for the theater and they must be original. That typically rules out jukebox musicals, such as Moulin Rouge or Just in Time.
Nevertheless, several recording artists who wrote original music for the theater have been nominated for Best Original Score, with a couple even winning the big prize. In 2013, Cyndi Lauper won for her work on Kinky Boots, becoming the first solo female composer to win the award. Singer songwriter Anaïs Mitchell cleaned up at the 2019 Tony Award for her musical Hadestown, including gongs for Best Musical and you guessed it, Best Original Score.
Of course, other artists have been nominated at the Tonys and narrowly missed out, namely Elton John, Sara Bareilles and Sting.
Nominations for the 99th Academy Awards will not be announced until January 2027, while the Tony nominations will be released in May 2027. That leaves ample time for Swift to map out her route to the iconic EGOT status if she should so wish.
