For a small dog, one Chihuahua has got big brains when it comes to finding somewhere comfy to sleep, earning over 1.3 million views on TikTok.

The footage, shared by her owner Esmeralda Vargas (@essmei1), shows the tiny dog wrapped up in bedding placed on the floor of a laundry room, rather than scratching or whining to be let inside a closed bedroom. The March 21 clip has racked up over 405,000 likes at the time of writing.

Text layered over the video explains the situation simply: “The kids closed the door to their bedroom, so she made her own bed in the laundry room.”

Rather than causing a fuss, the Chihuahua appears perfectly content with her makeshift setup, snuggled into duvets arranged on the floor. Viewers were quick to praise the dog’s calm and adaptable response.

“That’s what we call resourcefulness,” one user commented.

Another defended the pup’s independence, writing: “She said she didn’t want to go in their stinky little room anyway.”

A third added: “My dog would never allow it. He would scratch, whimper, whine, bark…. until we opened the door.”

The light‑hearted clip has sparked a wider discussion among viewers about where dogs should sleep—particularly when children are involved.

Should Dogs Sleep in the Same Bed as Children?

While the viral Chihuahua appeared happy creating her own sleeping space, many families choose to let their dogs sleep in bedrooms or even share beds with children.

Newsweek previously spoke to Dr. Bethany Hsia, co‑founder of CodaPet, and Steve Dale, a certified animal behavior consultant, who outlined the potential benefits and drawbacks of dogs sleeping in human beds.

However, both experts cautioned that there are downsides.

For the Chihuahua who went viral, however, independence proved just as comforting—earning hearts online by choosing rest over protest and showing that sometimes, resourcefulness speaks for itself.

Newsweek reached out to @essmei1 for comment via TikTok. We could not verify the details of the case.
