When an opera performance filled the room, one Alaskan malamute didn’t just listen, he joined in, and the internet can’t stop talking about it.
On TikTok, user @therealpaworotti shared a video of himself sitting next to his dog, Meko, listening to the classic opera song “Hallelujah,” composed by George Frideric Handel.
In the clip, Meko sits upright as a dramatic aria plays, and as the choir begins to sing, the dog tilts his head back and releases a long, sustained howl, pausing between notes as if waiting for his cue.
The timing and change of tone of Meko’s vocalizations drew widespread praise across social media.
The video has since been viewed 5.9 million times, and the creator issued a warning as the caption saying that it “may cause an instant dopamine release.”
On TikTok, reactions ranged from amused to impressed, with one user declaring, “I’m inspired.”
Another joked about booking him for special occasions, asking, “Does he do weddings?” to which the creator replied, “Depends who the bride is.”
Meanwhile, others focused on the technique.
“He’s so gentle with his singing,” one contributor noted. “The deep breaths are killllinnnggg me.”
According to PetCareRx, “The Alaskan Malamute’s history can be traced back to around 3000 B.C. This breed of dog got their name from the Mahlemut tribe, who inhabited northwestern Alaska at that time.
“Even though they were originally bred for work, most Alaskan Malamutes are now a family breed. Their work has evolved from pulling a sled to being a great companion to all family members.”
Pets and Music
This isn’t the first time dogs have been recorded enjoying listening to music.
One previous Newsweek story reported on a video shared on Instagram that showed how an American XL bully named Ragnar reacted to some relaxing music while left alone.
The video shows Ragnar fully sprawled out on his dog bed, front legs extended and head buried contentedly on the cushion, exuding total peace.
Another Newsweek story covered a video of a mixed cocker spaniel working show dog reacting to her favorite song.
While the owner played the song “The Sweet Escape” by Gwen Stefani and Akon, the dog started howling along enthusiastically, prompting widespread applause and jokes from others online.
