LeBron James is still weighing his free-agent options as he searches for a new home before his 24th NBA season.

James informed the Los Angeles Lakers that he intends to play elsewhere in 2026-27, opening up a highly-publicized free agency process for The King.

A few teams have separated themselves as the leading candidates to land James, including the Philadelphia 76ers.

The 76ers recently acquired now-former Boston Celtics superstar Jaylen Brown in a blockbuster trade, pairing him alongside Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey and VJ Edgecombe. With that stacked roster, James could pursue one last championship title in Philadelphia.

Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley was recently asked to give his sales pitch to James as he considers Philadelphia as one of his free-agent options.

“I think it’s one of the greatest sports towns in the world,” Barkley said. “If you want to go out with a bang, I feel like a great spot would be in Philly and bring a championship to Philadelphia. You’ll be remembered forever.”

After six seasons with the New York Giants, Barkley signed with the Eagles in free agency before the 2024 season. In his first season with the Eagles, he led the NFL with 2,005 rushing yards and propelled the franchise to its second Super Bowl title.

In addition to the 76ers, the Cleveland Cavaliers, Miami Heat and Golden State Warriors have emerged as leading contenders to land James in free agency.
