Bubba Watson Reveals Why Tiger Woods Blocked His Number

Tiger Woods was involved in a two-car crash in Jupiter Island, Florida, on March 27.

Martin County Sheriff John Budensiek confirmed at a press conference that Woods’ Land Rover had overtaken a truck “at high speeds,” causing the car to roll onto its driver’s side. Woods was “able to crawl out” of the passenger’s side, where he was identified by local police.

Neither Woods nor the other unidentified driver was injured in the crash, but Woods announced on March 31 that he was “stepping away for a period of time to seek treatment and focus on my health.”

While Woods will not play in The Masters at Augusta National this week, his presence has been heavily felt as the most ubiquitous topic of conversation.

During the Masters practice rounds on Monday, Bubba Watson joined the chorus.

“I could care less about Tiger’s golf,” Watson said, per Golfweek’s Cameron Jourdan. “I’ve always been in his ear. I told him that I wanted to be here for his next major. I was here in ’19 [when Woods won The Masters]. We were in the Champions Locker, and I made a lot of the champions come down to congratulate him. That was very emotional. I told him from day one that we started hanging out, back in ’06 or ’07, somewhere in there, that I’m pulling for him as a human being. Forget his golf.”

Watson added, “I always pull for him. I don’t have his phone number anymore. He blocks me because I make fun of him all the time. […] Nothing but love for him, and hopefully, he can come back stronger.”

Elsewhere at Augusta National, reigning Masters champion Rory McIlroy called it “a shame” that Woods and Phil Mickelson won’t be able to attend his Champions Dinner on Tuesday. Jason Day also spoke about watching his “hero” struggle like this and “hoping he comes out on the other side and is better.”

Woods is a five-time Masters and 15-time major champion. He has not competed in a PGA Tour event since the 2024 Open Championship. Early last year, Woods ruptured his Achilles at his home, and he underwent yet another back surgery last October.

Woods’ car accident last month was the latest in a string of worrying car crashes over the years, as seen here.

The first round of the 2026 Masters tees off on Thursday.
