New Orleans Saints wide receiver Jordyn Tyson entered the 2026 NFL Draft as one of the top wideouts in the class, alongside Carnell Tate and Makai Lemon.
All three were first-round picks and are expected to play major roles in their respective offenses this season. But Tyson is now dealing with another hamstring injury.
NewOrleans.Football’s Mike Triplett reported that Tyson left Saints practice early on Thursday with the injury. Nick Underhill later added that it “isn’t super serious,” but given Tyson’s injury history and the role he was expected to play in the offense, this is the last thing anyone wanted to see with Week 1 of the 2026 season just weeks away.
What makes this injury particularly concerning isn’t just that hamstring strains tend to linger and are prone to re-aggravation — it’s that Tyson has been here before. During Arizona State’s game against Texas Tech last season, he injured both hamstrings, though he still finished the contest, posting 105 receiving yards and a touchdown on 10 catches to help lead the Sun Devils to a 26-22 win. The injuries were later diagnosed as Grade 2 hamstring strains, sidelining him late in the season and forcing him to skip the pre-draft NFL Combine and Arizona State’s Pro Day.
That wasn’t his first run-in with injuries, either. He suffered a severe knee injury in 2022 at Colorado, tearing his ACL, MCL, and PCL, which forced him to miss the second half of that season and most of 2023. He then broke his collarbone late in the 2024 season, costing him more time. Those injuries happened years ago and are unrelated to a hamstring strain, but it’s the hamstring that cost him multiple games less than a year ago — and it’s why some scouts had concerns heading into the draft.
While it’s encouraging that this latest injury is being viewed as relatively minor, hamstring injuries are among the trickiest in football and can easily worsen if not properly rehabbed. Given that this isn’t his first encounter with one, expect the Saints to proceed cautiously.
New Orleans opens its preseason against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Saturday, a game Tyson now looks likely to miss. His next real chance to suit up will be Saturday, Aug. 22 against the Los Angeles Rams — a game worth watching to gauge how his recovery is progressing.
