MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said wind signals may be raised in parts of northern Luzon and the eastern part of Bicol on Monday evening or Tuesday morning because of Super Typhoon Champi.

Pagasa said on Sunday that "Champi" was spotted 2,000 kilometers east of southeastern Luzon as of 4 p.m. and was moving westward at 20 kilometers per hour (km/h) with maximum sustained winds of 185 km/h near the center and gustiness of 230 km/h.

It will enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Tuesday, weather specialist Grace Castañeda-Carpio said.

"Because we saw that the [wind] radius was relatively wide, even if it will not yet enter PAR tomorrow, it is possible that we will raise wind signals for the northern and eastern sections of northern Luzon as well as in the eastern section of the Bicol Region, particularly in Catanduanes," she said.

She said that Wind Signal 3 or 4 could be raised by Pagasa.

Strong winds and heavy rain from Champi, to be named “Rosal”, will be felt in these areas starting Wednesday.
