MANILA, Philippines — Chinese actress Zhang Yingfei, the star behind the viral Linda Walker character in the hit micro-drama “The Heiress Who Won with Brains,” arrived in Manila shortly after midnight on June 8, kicking off a multi-day visit focused on cultural exchange and educational outreach.
Zhang was warmly welcomed at Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 by officers of the Federation of Filipino Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Inc. (FFCCCII) and enthusiastic Filipino fans who gathered to catch a glimpse of the actress.
The 22-year-old is visiting the Philippines at the invitation of FFCCCII as part of a program designed to promote educational excellence, cultural appreciation and stronger people-to-people ties between the Philippines and China.
Following her arrival, Zhang was scheduled to tour the historic districts of Intramuros and Binondo, two of Manila's most significant cultural and heritage destinations. Organizers said the visit aims to showcase Philippine history, culture and tourism while giving the actress an opportunity to experience the country's rich traditions firsthand.
Zhang was also expected to pay a courtesy call on Manila Mayor Francisco "Isko Moreno" Domagoso at Manila City Hall, where discussions are anticipated to focus on cultural cooperation and tourism promotion.
A major highlight of her visit will take place on June 9, when she joins Education Secretary Juan Edgardo "Sonny" Angara, Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte and FFCCCII leaders for an outreach program at Quezon City High School.
During the event, students will receive school supplies and daily necessities, while Zhang is expected to share an inspirational message encouraging young people to pursue education, persevere through challenges and strive for their dreams.
Organizers said the actress will also participate in a series of media interviews during her stay, discussing the importance of education, youth development and cultural friendship between neighboring Asian nations.
The visit will culminate with a public meet-and-greet on June 10 at 3 p.m. at the Atrium, Level 4, Annex Building of SM North EDSA in Quezon City. Admission is free and open to students, educators, youth groups, fans and members of the public on a first-come, first-served basis.
"The Heiress Who Won with Brains" has become one of the most widely viewed micro-drama series on social media platforms, with Zhang's portrayal of the intelligent and determined Linda Walker earning a large international following.
Organizers expressed hope that her Philippine visit will transform online admiration into meaningful personal engagement, allowing young people to draw inspiration from themes of hard work, learning and perseverance that have contributed to the popularity of the series.
The program is organized by FFCCCII with assistance from the Chinese Embassy. FFCCCII said the visit also highlights its longstanding commitment to education through its Operation Barrio Schools project, which has helped provide thousands of school buildings for public school students across the country.
