MANILA, Philippines — Manila Mayor Isko Moreno admitted on Monday that his government was faced with the "problem" of helping residents affected by last week's fire of recovering "soon" but assured them that there was "a plan" and hoped to bring some "good news" to the victims.
Speaking at the city’s weekly flag ceremony, Moreno said the city government was already preparing measures to help "within the day" more than 2,000 displaced residents after the fire that struck Binondo.
“The problem now is how they will recover soon. But, again, in our own little way, we have a plan. Hopefully, within a day, we can bring some good news to our fellow Manilenos,” said Moreno.
In a previous interview, Moreno said the city would provide financial assistance to affected families.
The blaze erupted Saturday afternoon at the Parola Compound and escalated to Task Force Charlie before firefighters were able to fully extinguish it after around six hours.
