MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) forecast isolated rains or thunderstorms in Metro Manila for Tuesday.

In the 5 p.m. weather update, Pagasa Weather Specialist Grace Castañeda-Carpio said that rainy weather would still be experienced on Tuesday in parts of Aurora, Quezon, and Bicol due to the easterlies. "Occasionally, we will still experience short periods of up to heavy rains," she said in Filipino and English.

"We will have isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms [on Tuesday] here in Metro Manila and a large area of Luzon. This is still due to the easterlies," she said.

As to the rest of Luzon except Palawan, she said that Tuesday skies would be partly cloudy to cloudy. She said that isolated light rains or drizzles were still possible in Batanes, Babuyan Islands, and Ilocos Norte.

As to parts of Eastern Visayas, Castañeda-Carpio said Tuesday skies would be cloudy and scattered rains would be experienced due to the easterlies.

As to the rest of the Visayas as well as Palawan and the entire Mindanao, she said that Tuesday skies would be "partly cloudy to cloudy but, by afternoon and evening, the chance of isolated rainshowers, thunderstorms due to localized thunderstorms will increase." She added that during severe thunderstorms, people could experience a short period of heavy rain.

During the weather update, Castañeda-Carpio said two weather systems were prevailing over the Philippines.

One was the northeasterly windflow affecting the area of extreme north Luzon, based on the weather update. Castañeda-Carpio said that this weather system was bringing good weather to Batanes and Babuyan Islands but that isolated light rains or drizzles were possible.

The easterlies were affecting the rest of Luzon and the eastern section of the Visayas, she said.

"The chance of rains, thunderstorms, is still high" in Aurora, Quezon, Bicol, and Eastern Visayas, she said. "So it is still possible for us to occasionally experience up to heavy rains," she said, cautioning the public about the possibility of flood and landslides.

"While here in Metro Manila and the rest of the country tonight, it is still possible for us to experience sudden rains, thunderstorms due to the easterlies and localized thunderstorms," she said.
