One of the year’s biggest blockbusters is coming to home screens as “Michael,” Antoine Fuqua’s biopic about the life and career of Michael Jackson, premieres on HBO Max on Sept. 25.
The 2026 film stars Jaafar Jackson, the late performer’s nephew, in the title role. It traces Jackson’s journey from his early years with the Jackson 5 to his emergence as one of the most recognizable solo artists in music history.
Beyond revisiting his career, “Michael” brings audiences back to the different eras that shaped Jackson’s image. His clothes became nearly as memorable as his songs, performances and choreography, making his wardrobe an important part of telling his story onscreen.
Costume designer Marci Rodgers recreates Jackson’s evolution, beginning with the colorful ensembles of the Jackson 5 years and continuing through the distinctive looks of his solo career.
Among the iconic outfits represented in the film are the red leather jacket with V-shaped piping from “Thriller”; the sparkling jacket, glove and socks worn during Jackson’s “Billie Jean” performance at Motown 25; the belts-and-buckles jacket associated with “Bad”; and the white suit and hat from “Smooth Criminal.”
Together, the costumes help distinguish the many stages of Jackson’s career while reflecting how his visual style developed alongside his music.
PLDT Home is gearing up to power the home viewing of the anticipated release through the HBO Max Standard subscription included with its Fiber Unli All Plan. The bundle also comes with fiber internet, access to Cignal TV channels, Smart mobile data and unlimited landline calls.
With its music, performances and recreation of Jackson’s defining looks, “Michael” gives audiences a closer view of the different eras behind an enduring pop culture figure.
