From the iconic BILLY bookcase and KALLAX shelving to that donut lamp, IKEA continues to prove itself a leader in Scandinavian style that’s impossible to resist, even among celebrities.
Over the past decade, the likes of Kourtney and Khloé Kardashian, Jennifer Lawrence, and Ryan Reynolds have openly shared their affinity for the brand. Across the Atlantic, the Prince and Princess of Wales have also revealed that IKEA furniture features in their children’s bedrooms in Apartment 1A at Kensington Palace.
I admit, the Prince and Princess pleasantly surprised me the most, but there are six more celebrities whose affection for IKEA deserves more recognition. I've listed some of the most notable self-confessed lovers below.
1. Prince and Princess of Wales
The Prince and Princess of Wales’s IKEA furniture reportedly sits in Prince George and Princess Charlotte’s bedrooms in their private apartment in Kensington Palace.
During a 2018 visit to ArkDes, Sweden’s national museum of art and design, the couple told Marcus Engman, then IKEA’s head of design, that they owned furniture sets from the brand. While the specific items were never confirmed, Engman later told reporters that the pieces furnish the bedrooms of Prince George and Princess Charlotte.
While they could fill their homes with any bespoke or designer furniture, their choice feels more modest and almost disarmingly relatable. I’ve rounded up some bedroom essentials below to help us all sleep like royalty.
Brushed surface
This durable pine cabinet functions well as a standalone piece or can serve as a base when combined with a stackable unit, providing remarkable flexibility.
100% cotton
Made from soft 100% cotton, this duvet cover set features classic green-and-white yarn-dyed stripes. The heavier yarn adds a warm, handcrafted feel, giving your bedroom a gentle touch of vintage charm.
Foldable construction
The PAX storage frame opens like a book, so you can set it up exactly where you need it without heavy lifting. It’s a classic must-have for any bedroom.
Washable Cover
This neutral cushion cover boasts a textured, matte finish with refined flange edges, offering both elegance and shape. It coordinates easily with throws and bedspreads to create a layered, polished look.
Handwoven
Made from handwoven rattan, each basket has its own natural, one-of-a-kind charm. Designed to fit seamlessly on any shelf, it combines artistic style with everyday functionality (and looks great in the process).
Adjustable shelves
The Billy bookcase has earned its iconic status for good reason. Its adaptable design makes it perfect for storing books or everyday essentials anywhere in your home.
2. Miley Cyrus
Miley Cyrus was spotted with IKEA PS Maskros pendant lamp‑style light fixtures in her Malibu home around 2016, when photos of the beachy‑chic bungalow she had just bought (for about $2.525 million) showed at least two of these IKEA pendant lamps around the living spaces.
Designed by Marcus Arvonen, the lamp is named afterthe Swedish word 'maskros,' meaning dandelion. It resembles a spherical burst of dandelion seeds – when it’s lit, the shade casts intricate shadows and patterns across the walls and ceiling.
It’s sadly no longer listed, but there is a close alternative. The VINDKAST pendant light (available at IKEA) offers a similar sculptural and airy feel, with a contemporary white dome that softly diffuses light throughout a room.
While this light doesn’t have the intricate “dandelion seed” pattern of the Maskros, this alternative provides a clean, minimalist silhouette that works well as a statement ceiling piece, and its affordability and versatility make it a great contemporary substitute for recreating that playful glow, just like Miley's.
3. Jared Leto
As observed in 2021, Jared Leto has IKEA shelving (specifically the KALLAX) in his Los Angeles home. In his backdrop, the singer has curated books and plants, proving that, when it comes to shelf styling, he's just like us.
The cubby-style design, with its versatile, customizable compartments, transforms the shelves into both a practical storage solution and a personal display, exemplifying the multifunctional nature of this Scandi staple. I've long been a fan of the classic KALLAX (at IKEA), so it's a true pleasure to see Jared feel the same way.
Whether upright or horizontal, the KALLAX series flexibly adapts to any space, style, or budget. With a range of inserts and storage boxes, the shelving unit can be customized to suit your personality (just as Jared demonstrates).
4. Jennifer Lawrence
When you’re Jennifer Lawrence, luxury is always an option, especially when it comes to statement sofas. However, she purchased her couch from IKEA.
Shocked by the price of designer furniture, she told The Telegraph, 'I bought one from IKEA. It doesn’t matter how much money I make; unfairness in prices really fires me up. Like shopping in L.A., and a T-shirt costs $150.'
IKEA offers many chic sofa models (from classics like the KLIPPAN to modular styles like the KIVIK); however, Jennifer hasn’t specified exactly which model she has in her home.
5. Ryan Reynolds
In 2015, shortly after Ryan Reynolds became a dad to his daughter, James, with Blake Lively, he took part in a video in which he was given a HENSVIK baby crib (from IKEA) to assemble.
This minimalist Scandinavian‑style cot is built from solid wood with simple slatted sides and an adjustable base. It’s emblematic of IKEA’s accessible, utilitarian approach to nursery design, and, of course, came in a flat-pack.
While we’re not sure if Ryan kept the crib, it’d be nice to think it sat in their Reynolds-Lively house for some time, at least.
6. Khloe and Kourtney Kardashian
Back in 2009, Kourtney and Khloé Kardashian collaborated with IKEA on a promotional campaign in which they designed a college dorm room using only IKEA furniture. The campaign was tied to a fan contest in which participants could win an autographed IKEA table, highlighting the sisters’ affiliation with the brand.
Then, in 2017, Kourtney showed that she still appreciated IKEA by sharing holiday decorating tips with fans on her official Kourtney Kardashian app. She specifically mentioned using IKEA faux shearling rugs as tree skirts for her children’s Christmas trees, creatively layering them to hide the tree stands in her Californian home.
7. Sarah Jessica Parker
And just like that, Sarah Jessica Parker similarly reminded us that great style does not have to come with a luxury price tag. The actress casually elevated her living room shelving with an unassuming staple from IKEA, the KUDDLAVA pleated table lamp, proving that Scandinavian-inspired design can still be had for the price of a movie ticket.
With its softly diffused glow and timeless silhouette, the lamp is selling for under $15 and looks far more expensive than it is.
This striking pleated table lamp is designed to cast a gentle, mood-setting glow over any living room nook or shelf, true to Scandinavian design principles. Crafted from recycled plastic and finished with a decorative solid-wood knob, it delivers a clean, considered look that perfectly captures a Scandi-inspired aesthetic.
The reveal last year unfolded on Instagram, when she first shared a behind-the-scenes glimpse of herself navigating the flat-pack assembly process. Shortly after, she returned to share the finished result, the KUDDLAVA standing quietly on the shelf in her New York home.
8. Ellen Pompeo
Press photos from around 2012 show Ellen Pompeo browsing an IKEA store in Burbank, California, reportedly picking up pillows and houseplants. While we do not know exactly what made it into her cart, the image captures a refreshing design truth.
Even Hollywood interiors can take inspiration from IKEA’s clever, stylish, and versatile pieces. It is a reminder that layering texture, greenery, and affordable accents, the hallmarks of great design, can start on the showroom floor of a flat-pack powerhouse. It’s beloved by celebs (and the likes of us) for a reason.
