The GAC AION UT is continuing its global expansion with growing momentum in the Philippines, following its local launch in May 2026. According to GAC International, the all-electric hatchback recorded global sales of 3,331 units in May, representing a 60% month-on-month increase and making it the fastest-growing Chinese-brand electric hatchback in its segment. The company says the model has also begun attracting Filipino motorists looking to transition to electric mobility.
Building on international recognition
Since its global debut in 2025, the AION UT has expanded into markets including Thailand, Australia, Latin America, and Europe. Its growing presence has been supported by several international recognitions, including The Most Valuable EV Award at the Bangkok International Motor Show, Best Compact Electric Vehicle Award in Mexico, and BEST SUBCOMPACT HATCHBACK 5 Dr. EV at Thailand’s Car of the Year 2026. The vehicle has also participated in collaborations across sports and entertainment that GAC says have strengthened its appeal among younger buyers.
Designed by GAC’s Milan Design Center, the AION UT combines the brand’s “Digital Magic Cube” design language with a fastback-inspired silhouette. Although positioned as a compact hatchback, it features a class-leading 2,750mm wheelbase that creates a more spacious cabin, while Magazine Battery 2.0 technology underpins its electric drivetrain.
Expanding GAC’s EV lineup in the Philippines
Steven Wang, senior vice president of GAC International, said the AION UT represents another step in expanding the company’s electrified vehicle lineup for the Philippine market.
“We are thrilled to bring another global hit from GAC’s line of innovations to the Philippines through the AION UT. This milestone allows us to further serve and diversify our brand offerings in the local mobility scene. We are confident that the AION UT will bolster dynamic, safe, and sustainable driving for Filipinos this 2026.”
Early owners highlight everyday practicality
Among the AION UT’s first local owners is Paul Lacson, a Silay City government employee, who said his previous experience with the GAC Emzoom gave him confidence in choosing the electric hatchback.
Lacson said he now uses the AION UT for his daily commute and has been impressed by its ride comfort, performance, and efficiency.
“I also have a two-year old GAC Emzoom, and the quality of the brand made me confident in choosing the AION UT. Since the fuel crisis, I’ve been using the AION UT for everyday commutes. The drive comfort is very good, and the power for its size is very strong, especially on the highway. I took it on an out-of-town trip and for a 100-kilometer stretch, I only used 20% of the battery. It’s been a game-changer for my family.”
He added that after comparing several EVs and hybrid models, the AION UT offered the combination of space, features, and operating costs that best suited his family’s needs.
Another early owner, quality analyst Jeff Filio, said his research led him to the AION UT after comparing different electric vehicles.
“I was looking at other brands, but after I saw the AION UT in an ad, I looked into it further and saw the higher range and better tech. It was actually the first release of the AION UT at GAC Kawit.”
Filio also cited the vehicle’s technology, styling, and companion mobile app as factors that reinforced his purchase decision.
Pricing and availability
The GAC AION UT is offered in Champs-Elysees Beige, Emerald Green, Rococo White, Seine Silver, and a two-tone Rococo White and Emerald Green finish.
The AION UT Elite carries a suggested retail price of PHP1,068,000, with an introductory price of PHP998,000 available until July 31, 2026. GAC is also offering an additional PHP20,000 promotional discount for the first 400 units sold. Customers may reserve the AION UT through GAC dealerships nationwide.
Ownership support
GAC Philippines says it supports owners through a nationwide network of 30 dealerships, a local parts warehouse, and aftersales services.
The AION UT is backed by an 8-year or 160,000km vehicle warranty for EV models, an 8-year or 200,000km warranty for the core three-electric system, and two years of complimentary roadside assistance.
In Summary
The GAC AION UT continues to build momentum following its Philippine launch, supported by growing global sales, international recognition, and positive feedback from early local owners. Combining compact dimensions with a spacious cabin, electric efficiency, and comprehensive ownership support, the AION UT expands GAC’s growing portfolio of electric vehicles for Filipino motorists.
